Jam Master Niro (lol)

So here's a good story, a couple of years ago, I got very excited with the whole Mac Mini concept. Being a person who spends half his life traveling, the concept of a light weight PC which fits inside a Sandwich holder is very appealing! Any way, since my musical days of playing the trumpet, I have wanted to "try" and get back into music.... its only taken about 15 years for it to happen. So I am a Mariah Carey Fan (no I'm not homosexuial, and no I don't have a problem with that), in particular the song We Belong Together. So after much messing about, I have remixed my first song using GarageBand. The only original piece of the composition is Mariah's voice, which I got from the original album when she released it. All the beats and melody are me! Lucky for me I was also able to re-use the original video (as the words lined up). Only Apple and Google technology were used to produce this. Every thing was off-the-shelf, no special tools.

Enjoy, and tell me if you like the mix (see the video below).

Bruce Lee Susha + Niro Buzz Light Year Hong Kong by night

In November this year, Susha and I had the opportunity to take a holiday on our way back from our 3 day trip to Australia! A break we needed very much. Hong Kong was very nice, and actually much like most of the "western" countries we know and love. The food was great (because I wasn't vegetarian on this trip... sorry Susha), and some of the views from these roof top restaurants were amazing (check out these photos, what to eat, by the water, satisfied after a meal).

Here's some recommendations (Thanks Vic!)

1. Po lin monastery/Big Buddha : From Tsim Tsha Tsui, Take the MTR red line (Tsuen wan line) to Central station, then change to the Orange line (Tung chung line) and take it all the way to Tung Chung. From Tung Chung, there is bus that will take you to the big Buddha. I think it leaves from bus stop 20, but I'm not sure, so you'll have to check - it is signposted from the station anyways. It is approximately 35-40 mins on the bus, and its quite bumpy, so if you get travel sick, bring a bag!! Check out the photos.

2. Man Fat temple/ Ten Thousand Buddha’s monastery : From Tsim Tsha Tsui, take the KCR to Shatin station. from there its about a 10 minute walk, which is signposted i think. Lots of Buddha’s in different poses, so if you have a Buddha fetish, this is the place for you!

If you want to go shopping, there is a large mall just by Shatin station, which has quite a lot of mid range stuff

3. Victoria peak Tram : best view in Hong Kong, probably more spectacular on a clear evening. Take the KCR to central station. From there, take the J2 exit, and its about another 10 min walk from there. You can use your oyster card, instead of queuing up to buy your ticket (i learned the hard way!) but make sure you go up to the new Sky terrace, which is well worth the £1 extra!! There are a few restaurants there if you want to have a meal with a view. There is a Madame Tussauds experience that you can buy as a package with the Peak Tram, but we didn’t see it. Check out the photos.

4. Disney land : Take the MTR to central, change to the orange line, and take it to Sunny bay station. From there, cross the platform, and the Disney land express will take you straight there! If you go, go on a weekday to avoid the kids. Check out the photos .

 5. Cheung Chau island : Tiny outlying island, shows what old Hong Kong use to be like before all the skyscrapers. Take the MTR to central, walk to the Hong kong station part (as you would do to take the Tung chung or Orange line) and follow the signs to the central piers. I cant remember which pier you have to go to for Cheung chau, so ask the Concierge at the hotel.

6. Lamma island : another outlying island, larger than Cheung chau. Has a beach (it is not too bad, not amazing) and good for fresh seafood! Follow instructions for Cheung Chau, but the ferry will leave from a different pier.

7. Repulse bay : apparently the best beach in Hong Kong. We didn't go. I think you take a bus from Central station.

8. Mong kok/nathan road : If you want to hunt around for cameras, Phones etc, take the MTR to Mongkok. Just walk down the Nathan road, and there’s loads of electronics stores there. If you want fake designer bags/belts/ wallets and football shirts etc, go to the ladies market, which is a turning off the Nathan road. As far as i can tell, the quality of the goods is not bad, better than in Bangkok.

9. Peninsular hotel : Is the best hotel in Hong Kong. Go here for tea to the restaurant/bar at the top, with a nice view of Victoria harbor Also the toilets are nice....apparently... Peninsular hotel is at Tsim Tsha Tsui. We went for dinner and the food was good but not awesome, we actual thought the Intercontinental hotel's restaurant was much nicer as its on the water.

10. The place to go for cheap Cantonese eats would be Wan Chai/ Causeway bay, which is on the Blue MTR line. People speak some limited English, but English menus seem to be available from most places.

If you're looking for bars, walk around Central or Wan chai. (In wan chai there are quite a few strip joints, if that is of interest to you :p)

If you want high end shopping, there is a good mall adjoining Admiralty MTR station called the Pacific place or plaza or something. Just follow the signs. There is also the IFC mall at Hong Kong station, but its eerily quiet. I think there is also a lot of designer shops at Tsim Tsha Tsui. Failing that, the duty free from the Hong Kong international airport is pretty amazing. Lots of high end stuff here, and an amazing airport (Norman foster designed).

If you check out Hong Kong, we hope you have as much fun as us!
